Spring Cleaning Checklist

Spring cleaning is a time-honoured tradition. Looking back into history it makes a lot of sense to keep things settled in winter when everything is cold and really tackle the cleaning when it’s warmer and brighter.

Even though we have more modern conveniences, it is still a great idea to do a big house clean in spring. Why? Because central heating can cause a build up of dust and now that you’re saving on fuel with the coming of warmer weather, you can finally eradicate that settled dust.

With the sensation that is Mrs Hinch still spinning around on both Instagram and in our heads, we are so ready to tackle our Spring Clean this year. With our air freshener in our left hand and a feather duster in our right, we’ve put together this super simple Spring Cleaning Checklist to ensure you’re not missing a spot in your house.

  • Work Room by Room – First off, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Rome wasn’t built in a day and your spring cleaning doesn’t have to be done in one either. Have a look at what your schedule is like and start small, working your way up to tackle the bigger rooms when you have the time to do it. Doing it this way will help you get into the flow of cleaning a room and what should be done and in which order.
  • The 6 Month Rule – Haven’t used something in 6 months? Can’t remember the last time you used it or wore it? You know what the answer is. Now is the time to say goodbye and get rid. Create piles for both a local charity drop off and the rubbish bin; there’s nothing more satisfying than dropping a big bag of old clothes and books off to those that need it more than you do!
  • Refresh the Windows – We might get the window cleaners round once or twice a month, but they don’t come in and do the insides do they? Get rid of children’s handprints or collected dust by using a Window Vacuum to create streak-free windows – it can also be used on mirrors, shower doors and tiles too.
  • Tackle The Oven – It’s definitely not the most glamourous of jobs and probably sits alongside the toilet as the more gross things to clean but there’s something about a sparkly clean oven that is super satisfying. Avoiding those harsh chemicals means you’re less likely to damage your oven; So we recommend that you use a combination spray of bicarbonate of soda mixed with water and leave overnight to get your oven shining again!
  • Organise The Cupboards – Cupboard by cupboard, empty the entirety of it and sort out your tins, sachets and everything else you store. Throw away any out of date food, recycle those chipped glasses and use up your almost empty cleaning products before you open up that new bottle. You can also optimise your cupboard space by adding jars, containers and storage boxes to keep everything organised and grouped together.
  • Shampoo The Carpets – Whether it’s dropped food, crayons from the children, mud from the dog, our carpets sure can gather some dirt over time. This is why it’s important to shampoo your carpet at least once every 6 months so that it stays in better condition, for longer. There are various types of cleaners; from foam to spray, powder to liquid, there are shampoos to suit both your time and the severity of your stain!
  • Have Fun With It! – Think of Spring Cleaning as a sort of mini life detox. Tell Alexa to play your favourite songs, get the family involved and wash/wipe/sweep away your troubles. You’ll soon start to realise how much a clean environment makes a difference in your mood!
